Gaithersburg, MD – Recognizing his unwavering commitment to workers' rights, social justice, transit, and economic prosperity, the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), ATU Local 689-Washington, DC, and ATU Local 1777- Olney, MD, are proudly endorsing Maryland State Delegate Joe Vogel for Maryland’s 6th Congressional District.
“A community leader turned State Delegate, Joe Vogel’s steadfast dedication to championing the needs of working people and their families has earned him the trust of the people in Maryland’s 6th Congressional District,” said ATU International President John Costa. “He has helped advance labor rights and consistently demonstrated a deep understanding of the challenges facing workers, including in public transit. We are proud to endorse Joe Vogel and will be registering our members to vote, encouraging them to vote, engaging riders, and taking part in other actions in the all-out effort to send Joe Vogel to Congress.”
As the youngest member of the Maryland General Assembly and one of the first Generation Z members of the Assembly, Vogel has a proven track record of reaching across the aisle to deliver for working families across Maryland. A staunch supporter of labor unions, he has played a pivotal role in shaping legislation that prohibits employers from union-busting by holding mandatory employee meetings to talk workers out of unionizing. Vogel would be Maryland’s first openly LGBTQ and first Latino Member of Congress.
"Joe Vogel has already proven to be a worthy ally for workers, riders, and transit in the General Assembly,” said ATU Local 689 President/Business Agent Raymond Jackson. “We're excited to have an ally like him in Congress to ensure we finally get key items like the PRO Act and dedicated funding for transit passed."
“Joe Vogel has dedicated his career to advocating for his community, and has been a force for progress in the legislature,” said ATU Local 1777 President/Business Agent Patricia Hall. “A friend of the ATU, Joe Vogel has consistently stood up for the interests of transit workers, our passengers and labor unions. We stand with Joe Vogel for Congress and look forward to sending him to Congress.”
Joe shared:
"I’m honored to have the endorsement of ATU International and ATU Locals 689 and 1777. Unions are an essential partner in building more just, equitable, prosperous communities. Transit workers help build our economy and connect our communities. They’ve stepped up time and time again, especially during the COVID19 pandemic, and I’m proud to be standing with them in their fight. I’m so grateful for their support and I look forward to continuing to lift up working families when serving as Maryland’s next member of Congress."
